PIERRE, (KCCR) — There will be road construction on at least one section of Interstate 90 in central South Dakota. The South Dakota Transportation Commission approved that bid and seven others Thursday. The work will take place on eastbound I-90 from Kennebec to Reliance. Cold milling will be done as part of the project along with the asphalt concrete resurfacing of the shoulders, an asphalt surface treatment, C-R-C pavement spall repairs and guardrail work. Five companies submitted bids for the estimated four-point-five-seven million dollar project. The low bid was awarded to Spencer Quarries Incorporated for four-point-four million dollars which is just under 375-thousand dollars over the engineer’s estimate by nine-point-two percent. Morris Incorporated and three Minnesota companies also put bids down on the work. The Transportation Commission also approved a bid by Soukup Construction of Sioux Falls for work on two bridges in Hand County.
