The Pierre Governor soccer teams will start its playoff journey today as the Governor girls, the three seed, will host Mitchell while the boys, the 11 seed, travel to face Sioux Falls Christian.
For the Governor girls, they have won the last two meetings with Mitchell, 3-0 last year and then 2-0 this year with the Govs winning just a couple of weeks ago in Mitchell. Pierre finished at 11-2-1 in the regular season while the Kernels went 5-9 breaking a five game losing streak at the end of the season, beating West Central. But really dipped in the standings over the last couple of weeks with the losses scoring just five goals in the five losses.
The Governor boys on the other side will see Sioux Falls Christian who they haven’t played against since soccer became a school sport. The Governors finished at 6-4-4 with back-to-back wins to end the regular season while Sioux Falls Christian finished at 7-4-1 to be the sixth seed in the playoffs. While the Chargers won seven games, they went 2-4-1 against AA teams and have a loss to Sturgis, who the Governors beat. Pierre has been able to compete with every team they’ve played against with three of the four losses being by one goal.
The boys will kickoff at 6:30 at the Sanford Crossing in Sioux Falls. Coverage of the girls game tonight will be at 4:40 with kickoff at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
