On a hot, windy night the Sully Buttes Chargers used a balance of passing and rushing to down the Faith Longhorns 50-0 on Homecoming night in Onida.
The Chargers racked up 187 yards on the ground, behind the rushing of Kadyn Westergrens’ 138 yards on just six carries. Through the air, quarterback Wesley Wittler didn’t have one of his top nights, but finished 7 of 16 for 120 total yards. The Chargers totaled 309 yards offensively allowing reserves to get playing time in the contest and finished the game with 3:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter. A continuously clock would start the second half with the score at the break of 36-0 and ended when Sully Buttes’ Carson Mercer sprinted around the right side to push the score to 50-0.
Faith had offensive troubles, but played hardnosed defense to make Sully Buttes earn their victory. Senior Tyler Martin dominated in whatever position he picked, but didn’t get enough help to sustain an attack offensively or defensively.
The 6-0 Chargers now travel to Herreid to take on the 6-2 Herreid Selby Area Wolverines Friday night, while 0-6 Faith heads to Bison to take on the Harding County/Bison Ranchers. You can hear that game Friday night on Country 95.3FM with a 7PM kickoff, and a 6:40PM pregame.
