The ESD Tennis tournament would wrap on Tuesday as the Pierre Governors would place seventh overall and two flights winning a consolation championship.
Gemma Stangeland in flight six would win the consolation championship. She narrowly lost the first round matchup 10-9 (7-5) before winning 8-4 in the consolation semifinals and then winning 8-5 in the consolation championship. Stangeland and Eliza Mayer were the two to win two matches in a flight as Mayer would finish 2-2, falling in the consolation championship. Mayer won Monday in the play-in game, and then won in the consolation semifinal 8-5 reaching the consolation championship after being the eight seed. Adrian Hand in flight five would finish in fourth place going 1-2, but winning in the first round to reach the semifinals. Amara Dell in singles flight four would also reach the consolation title match after winning 8-4 in the semifinals, but would finish in sixth place. Breanna Tedrow in flight one and Elise Bowers in flight two would each go 0-2.
For the doubles side, Stangeland and Hand would win the consolation championship in flight three as the six seed would finish one spot higher with an 8-4 victory. Tedrow and Dell in flight one would go 0-2 while Mayer and Bowers in flight two would finish at 1-2 in sixth place. The duo won in the consolation semifinal to reach the championship.
Pierre would finish in seventh place ahead of both Brookings and Huron who didn’t score any points as a team. The Govs finished with 41 points while Harrisburg would win the ESD title scoring a 312, beating out Mitchell who had 275 points.
