The Pierre Governor soccer teams will finish the regular season today as they host the Huron Tigers in a boys and girls doubleheader at the PILC Fields.
Both Huron teams are winless on the season and will not make the playoffs, but the Governor girls and boys teams need wins to keep pace to close the regular season. The girls are 10-2-1 and in third place in the AA standings. Pierre will lose seed points no matter with a win or loss, but a loss would be detrimental for an opportunity to be one of the top teams in the league. Pierre wants to handle business against a team who has scored just two goals all season and 0-12 with another game against unbeaten Harrisburg on Thursday to finish their season.
The Governor boys will gain just minimal seed points on the average with Huron at 0-10-2, but a loss could really drop them down from the 11th spot in the standings currently at 5-4-4. Huron has scored just six goals all season, but have been shutout in nine of the 12 games and have lost all three games in which they scored. Pierre broke a four match winless streak with a 1-0 win over Sturgis on Saturday.
Kickoff of the girls game will be at 4:00 with the boys game to follow at the PILC Fields in Pierre. Brackets will not be finalized until Saturday when the final regular season games are finished.
