PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash Sunday in Hughes County. According to a release from the Department of Public Safety the crash happened Sunday evening around 8:45 pm on South Dakota Highway 34 near mile marker 231, approximately 21 miles east of Pierre and three miles west of DeGray Hill. The preliminary crash investigation shows a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van, driven by a 27 year-old Rock Valley, Iowa man was traveling west on Highway 34 when he struck a 23 year-old woman from Kennebec. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the mini-van was not injured. The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family.
