The Pierre Governor golf team would place ninth as a team at the ESD Invite in Brandon on Tuesday as the Govs finish up the season with only the state tournament remaining.
Pierre was led by their most veteran golfer, Tate Stoeser, as he placed tied for 27th at eight over par, 79 while teammate Rigley Kulesa was just two shots behind him at 10 over par, 81 tying for 39th. Hudson Prunty would place tied for 44th at 12 over par, 83. Ryker Edson, Caleb Hutton and Matthew Eberhard would tie for 54th as all three would shoot 18 over, 89 as one of the three was chosen to round out the four scoring. Johnathan Lake of Watertown would beat out Cole Brust of Aberdeen Central, Andrew Heinze of Brookings, Jalen Dwire of Harrisburg and Will Peterson of Brandon Valley to win the ESD individual title. Lake shot three under par, 68 while the other four were two under par, 69, one stroke away from forcing a playoff.
Team wise, Pierre would shoot a 332 overall taking ninth. Pierre finished 20 shots behind Aberdeen Central and were 26 shots back of Tea Area for sixth place. Harrisburg would shoot a two over par as a team, beating out Brandon Valley by seven strokes to win the team title.
The Governors will be in Rapid City next week Monday and Tuesday for the Class AA state tournament at the Meadow Brook Golf Course.
