PIERRE, (KCCR) — As Pierre Police Chief Jason Jones prepares to retire from his service with the Pierre Police Department additional administrative changes are taking place in the department. In mid-August, Captain Dusty Pelle was announced as the heir apparent to Jones’ role as chief. Now, filling Pelle’s role as Captain will be Sergeant Kyle Cummings. Cummings is a 19 year veteran of law enforcement with 13 of those years coming at the Pierre P-D. In his career with Pierre, Cummings has served as a patrol officer, Patrol Sergeant, SWAT Team Leader and a department Firearms Instruction. Law enforcement is a family affair for Cummings as his wife Kaitlin serves in the Detective Division. Pelle will become Chief on November 8th. Cummings will take over as Captain on November 11th. Jones is hanging up his duty belt after 25 years of service on the Pierre Police Department. He began with Pierre in 2000. Jones has been Chief for eight years, taking over from former Chief Dave Panzer is 2018.
