During Homecoming Week, the Lyman Raiders found just enough to hold off the Sully Buttes Chargers at the Lyman Gardens 25-12, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-18 Thursday night.
The Chargers started flat in the first set, but turned things around in the second. Leading 5-0, the Chargers couldn’t get any more offense going, while the Raiders scored 16 of the next 17 points to go up 16-6. The Chargers rallied, but couldn’t climb out of the hole they dug.
In the third set, Sully Buttes fought tooth and nail, switched up players, and held the Raiders at bay to get the advantage. But in the fourth set the Raiders went on a five point rally thanks to key serving by Bree Smart who tallied three aces in the run, and put the Raiders ahead to stay-at 16-11 and improve to 10-4. Mak Scott and sister Jordan worked to keep the Chargers at bay. For Sully Buttes, another strong game by senior Scottlynn Kinney, along with fellow seniors Jadyn Jaeger, Madison Bradberry and Isabelle Kallhoff were strong in their efforts.
Next up for 3-10 Sully Buttes is a home contest against the North Central Thunder Tuesday night in Onida. That is the next volleyball match on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer.
