
PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre T-F Riggs senior graduating next year is up for a prestigious opportunity. Riggs Principal Kelly Hansen says Bridger Babcock is one of 46 South Dakota seniors selected as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship program. The program honors students who have shown outstanding academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college courses. Nationwide, 16-thousand students are selected as semifinalists to continue competing for the Scholarship. Three types of National Merit Scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2026. Every finalist will compete for one of 25-hundred, 25-hundred dollar National Merit Scholarships. Approximately 830 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships will be awarded on behalf of nearly 150 corporations and businesses. Colleges and universities will finance roughly 36-hundred scholarships. Approximately, 15-thousand semifinalists are expected to advance to become a finalist. Over 26-million dollars worth of National Merit Scholarships are expected to be awarded next spring. This year is the 71st National Merit Scholarship program.
