The Pierre Governor football team is looking to bounce back tonight and do so against the defending 11AA state champions, the Watertown Arrows in Watertown.
It’s the first time since the start of the 2017 season someone other than the Pierre Governors are the defending 11AA champions, but Watertown is 0-2 to start the year with a 51-7 loss to Jefferson and 52-26 loss to Yankton last Friday. Watertown still returns a couple of pieces from last year’s state championship team, but have a different look in players grabbing the offensive stats. Pierre is coming in at 1-1 after a 13-7 loss to Huron and the offense will want to get going. So far, the Governors have failed to reach double digit points in back-to-back games for the first time in Steve Steele’s tenure as head coach. The Governors were 1-5 in the red zone last Friday and Steele says they have to be better at finishing drives this week…
Steele says Watertown is still big up front…
Steele says tonight it starts with stopping the run game…
Coverage tonight begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
