
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of four people involved in a four vehicle crash last week in Hand County. The crash happened on U-S Highway 14 six miles east of Highmore at 346th Avenue just after 10 am. Three motorcycles were westbound when a Chevy pickup driven by 45 year-old Adam Ray of Huron, crossed the centerline into the path of the motorcycles. The first motorcyclist, 78 year-old Marvyn Heaton of Redfield, was able to avoid the pickup. The second motorcyclist, 77 year-old Dorothy Heaton of Redfield was struck head-on by the pick-up. The third motorcyclist, 70 year-old Sherrie Johnson of Tulare, avoided the pickup by driving into the ditch. Johnson sustained non life-threatening injuries in the crash. Marvyn Heaton was not injured and Dorothy Heaton was killed in the crash. Ray was not using a seat belt and received minor injuries. Johnson was using a helmet. The Heatons were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
