The Pierre Governor volleyball team would be unable to win on Friday or Saturday against Stevens and Rapid City Central in Rapid City as they were swept by Stevens and lost 3-1 to Central.
Pierre lost 25-12, 25-10 and 25-13 to the Raiders on Friday as the Govs really never got anything moving on Friday. Pierre did take the second set on Saturday against the Cobblers, their first set win of the season, but still would fall 25-16, 28-30, 25-15 and 25-22. Pierre looked to make a run in the fourth set to try and force five, but the Cobblers got its first win of the season after losing to Aberdeen Central on Friday at home. The Cobbler’s Chloe Shreve had 15 kills on Saturday to lead all hitters in the contest and eight from Kailynn Dukat. Pierre spread its scoring around as five hitters got at least a handful of kills. The Govs were led by Hannah Eads and Marena Buschbom with six kills each while Addison Novotny, Ally Keyes and Sloane Waldron each having five.
The Governors are 0-3 on the season and will be at home for the first time this season to face the Douglas Patriots. Coverage of Thursday’s match will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call. First serve is scheduled for 6:30.
