Whether it was attacking through the air or on the ground, the Sully Buttes Chargers found success and the end zone en route to a 62-7 victory over the Burke Cougars in Burke.
Last week senior quarterback Wesley Wittler used his legs and his arm in their first win. Friday night Wittler ran for only 18 yards, but had touchdown passes of 36, 2 and 12 yards, and hit multiple receivers throughout the contest which was called by the mercy rule early in the third quarter. Freshman Tucker Gruis, and two TD’s by sophomore wideout Jett Yackley helped the Chargers cause.
Meanwhile on the ground, senior back Kadyn Westergren found his rhythm, scoring two TD runs of 20 and 12 yards finishing with 109 yards on the ground while Wittler added a three yard scoring run, and the rout was on.
Defensively, the Chargers really picked up the pace after Burke scored their lone touchdown of the night. Two Karsen Miles interceptions, one for a touchdown, along with an interception by Hudson Barber helped Sully Buttes hold Burke to 88 yards of total offense to the Chargers 375 total yards rushing and passing.
2-0 Sully Buttes moves into their bye week, before traveling to Hitchcock Tulare to take on the Patriots. 1-1 Burke will host the Avon Pirates in Burke.
