The Pierre Governor volleyball team will be on the road this weekend to Rapid city as they look for the first wins of the season facing Stevens tonight and then Central on Saturday.
Both Rapid city schools will open the season this weekend after not playing on Tuesday. It’s the traditional Pierre and Aberdeen Central against the Rapid schools. Pierre will face Stevens first who went 23-15 last year falling in the SoDak 16 to the Brandon Valley Lynx. The Raiders lost just two seniors to graduation so a lot of the core will be back for the Raiders who will be looking to get back to the state tournament.
Meanwhile, the Cobblers of Rapid City Central went just 13-20 last year falling to O’Gorman in the SoDak 16. Central loses more than Stevens with six seniors graduating from last season. The Cobblers will open with Aberdeen Central on Friday before hosting the Govs on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are 1-0 with a five set win over Brookings who they reversed swept on Tuesday. Pierre will look to be better this weekend and more aggressive on the attack after finishing with just 11 kills on Tuesday.
First serve is scheduled for 8:00 Central time Friday night at Stevens while Saturday’s game will be at 1:30 from Central High School.
