For the first time since 2022, the Pierre Governors will open its season at home as they face the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles looking to reclaim the 11AA state title for the eighth time in nine years.
The Governors are reloaded for another year as they head into the season opener tonight with plenty of experience returning from both the offensive side and the defensive side of the ball. The Govs return Kaleb Lounsbury at quarterback as he enters his senior year while the Govs still return several skill position guys in the starting lineup like the tight end Cooper Terwilliger and Carter Schiefelbein, one of the wideouts. The offensive line has been retooled and Tucker Otte returns after his injury last season which made him miss the second half of the season. But they will go up against an Aberdeen Central team which will want to utilize it’s big size on the line. The Golden Eagles went 3-7 last year and failed to score as much as they would like, but were sound defensively keeping them in most of their games. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the excitement is high…
Steele doesn’t expect much change from Aberdeen Central going into the first game from what they saw last year…
Steele says the biggest key is taking care of the football…
Coverage tonight begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
