PIERRE, (KCCR) — Asphalt shoulder surfacing work will begin this week on sections of U-S Highway 83 in Hughes, Sully and Potter Counties. The work will take place from the U-S Highway 83 junction with U-S Highway 14 near Blunt to the Highway 83 intersection with U-S Highway 212 west of Gettysburg. Pierre Area Engineer Dean VanDeWiele with the South Dakota Department of Transportation says flaggers and a pilot car will control traffic flow through the construction zones. Delays of 15 to 20 minutes can be expected during the project. As the preparation process for the work takes place, drivers are reminded to use caution and reduce speeds where there are shoulder drop offs. A 14-foot width restriction will be in place in on U-S Highway 83 during the project. Border States Paving of Fargo, North Dakota won the bid for the seven-point-seven million dollar project. The work is expected to be completed by October 17th.
