In a game which featured 104 points in total, the Hill City Rangers would come out victorious with a strong second half, beating the Stanley County Buffaloes 72-32 Friday night in Hill City.
Both teams would use the no-huddle, up-tempo offense to their advantage as the offense was dominant in the first quarter. The Rangers scored not even two minutes into the game, but Stanley County answered with Landon Bame scoring from a couple of yards out and the Buffs went up 8-7. Brendon Bothwell would get a tip drill touchdown to then lead 16-14 and in the final seconds, Weston Prince hit Paxton Deal in stride for about a 70 yard touchdown pass and the Buffs led 24-21 at the end of the first quarter as a total of 45 points were scored between the teams in the first 12 minutes of action. After a safety, Stanley County trailed just 28-26, but it was the Rangers who started to turn up the defense from there. The Rangers led 35-26 at the half. Prince and Bothwell connected for another touchdown pass and catch, but put the score at 49-32 in the fourth quarter. Hill city would eventually get another 23 points including a long field goal to finish out the win.
Stanley County will open up its home schedule on the brand new turf Friday, hosting the Parkston Trojans. Kickoff is at 7:00 from Ole Williamson Field.
