PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought conditions are slowly turning around in some parts of central South Dakota. The biggest change in the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota last week was the reduction of severe drought from Buffalo, Lyman and Brule Counties along the Missouri River. A large area of moderate drought remains from Jones and Mellette Counties into Tripp, Lyman, Buffalo and Brule, southeast Hughes and southern Hyde Counties. Parts of Gregory, Douglas and Aurora Counties are included in the large area. Elsewhere, moderate drought is found in northwest to central Sully County and Fall River and Custer Counties. Areas of abnormal dryness are found as far north as southern Dewey and Potter Counties, as far east as Mitchell and extends west through Jackson and Haakon Counties into Pennington and Oglala Lakota Counties. Moderate drought was eliminated from Hand County and was reduced by 30-percent in Buffalo County. Drought conditions remained unchanged in Hughes and Stanley Counties.
