The Pierre Governor soccer teams would get its first home game of the season under hot conditions and after over an hour delay, the boys would tie 2-2 while the girls would win 2-0.
In the boys game, Pierre would lead 1-0 after the first half with Caiden Ahartz getting the lone goal of the first half. Yankton would tie and take the lead as the second half was starting to dwindle, but Alex Oedekoven would tie the game coming from Ahartz with just three minutes remaining to earn the tie as the Govs move to 1-1-2 on the season.
Emlyn Swanson would get her first shutout of the season in the girls game as the Govs remain unbeaten at now 3-0-1. Natalie Flottmeyer would get the Govs on the board first with an assist from Cameron Larson in the second half after playing to a stale mate in the first half. Sophia Brueggeman wasted no time after the first goal to put the Govs up 2-0 on her first varsity goal of her career and Pierre held on to beat a solid Yankton squad who lost for the first time this season.
Pierre will have eight days between games as they next host Rapid City Stevens and Central next week Friday and Saturday. Friday’s games will be at PILC and Saturday’s games against Central will be back at Hollister Field.
