Tonight begins the magic of football season again, and the Sully Buttes Chargers will start the season just like in 1990, as defending state champions. The Chargers will host Northwestern in the first game of the year tonight.
The Chargers will be without some key pieces of last year’s state championship from graduation, but still have plenty returning, including All-State quarterback Wesley Wittler. A total of eight players graduated. They open up their title defense against the Northwestern Wildcats who will look for their first win since the 2022 season. Sully Buttes won 46-6 last season on the road to start the season and Northwestern has gone 0-8 the last two years. Northwestern also graduated eight seniors from last year’s team. Clayton Randall takes over as the new head coach for Northwestern. Randall previously coached at Herreid/Selby Area but Moore says as it was last year, you don’t know exactly how the team will look heading into the first game…
