For the first time this season, the Pierre Governor soccer teams will be at home as they host the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles on the football field at Hollister Field.
The Governor boys will look for a second straight win after picking up a 3-1 victory on Tuesday against Roosevelt on the road, battling the heat. It won’t be any different for today as the temperatures will continue to be near triple digits around kick off. Yankton is 1-2 with a 3-0 win over Rapid City Central, but lost 3-0 to Stevens and a 7-0 loss to Watertown on Tuesday.
The Governor girls are trying to stay unbeaten facing the 2-0-1 Gazelles. While the start of the game wasn’t delayed because of heat, the girls did have to wait longer for the varsity game to get rolling. Pierre tied Roosevelt 1-1, but are still 2-0-1 on the season. Yankton tied Stevens to start the season 2-2 but beat Rapid City Central 3-0 before knocking off Watertown 4-2 Tuesday as they are also unbeaten. The two teams are third and fourth in the standings at the quarter point of the season.
Because of the heat, kick off will an hour later so the boys will play first at now 5:00 with the girls game to follow as the varsity games will be played at Hollister Field. The JV games will be at the PILC Fields also starting at 5:00.
