
PIERRE, (KCCR) — A new name will be leading the Pierre Police Department. The City of Pierre Thursday announced the appointment of Captain Dusty Pelle to follow Jason Jones in becoming the Department’s new Police Chief. Pelle has been with the Pierre P-D for 21 years. Jones is set to retire this fall after an extensive career with the Capital City’s police force. Pelle started as a dispatcher with State Radio in 2002. In 2003, he joined the Haakon County Sheriff’s Office. His career with the Pierre Police Department started in 2004 where he’s served as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and his current role as Captain. In 2023, Pelle was promoted to Captain, overseeing the Patrol, Investigations and Communication Divisions. He has also served on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and played a role in keeping the police department’s record management system. Pelle officially takes over as Chief from Jones on November 8th.
