The Pierre Governor soccer teams would battle the heat with an extra delay, but the boys would get a 3-1 win while the girls would tie 1-1 on Tuesday at Roosevelt High School.
The Governor boys played first, but had to wait out a heat delay for an extended period before starting. The wait was worth it as the Govs stormed out to a 3-1 win claiming the first victory of the season moving to 1-1-1 as they head home for the first home game of the season on Thursday.
Pierre would earn a tie with the Roughriders as Cameron Larson would get the only goal of the game for Pierre tying Roosevelt 1-1. It keeps the Governors unbeaten at now 2-0-1, but it keeps the momentum going for the Governors as they face Yankton at home on Thursday. Larson scored in the first half for Pierre.
The Governors will host the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles on Thursday. The boys will play first at 4:00 and the girls game to follow at Hollister Field in Pierre. It’s the first of four home games at the football field.
