PIERRE, (KCCR) — An Eagle Butte woman has been sentenced on a federal manslaughter charge. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 26 year-old Jaclyn Blue Coat was sentenced last week to 11 years in federal prison on a charge of Voluntary Manslaughter. Blue Coat will serve three years of supervised release after serving the prison term. Ramsdell says Blue Coat pleaded guilty in May to stabbing the father of her children with a knife in the upper left portion of his chest causing his death. The stabbing in September of 2024 happened during an argument Blue Coat was having with the man on his deck in Dupree in Ziebach County. Blue Coat was indicted on the charge in November of 2024. The case was prosecuted by the U-S Attorney’s office through the Major Crimes Act, which mandates certain violent crimes be prosecuted on the federal level instead of in state Court. Blue Coat was taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving her sentence.
