The Four Corners baseball team will face off against the Platte Killer Tomatoes tonight in the second round of the Class B State Amateur baseball tournament in Brandon.
Four Corners had an excellent outing from their ace Jack Van Camp on Saturday beating Lennox/Chancellor/Worthing in an 8-4 victory as he gave up just one earned run in nine innings. Now, defense will be key for Four Corners as they want to limit the errors after having five on Saturday, although it didn’t burn them in the game. Platte beat Redfield 12-3 on Saturday and are 14-7 on the summer. The Killer Tomatoes hit two homers and Grant Doom and Hunter Hewitt, the team leader in home runs, each went deep in the first round win. The Killer Tomatoes have some power bats as they’ve hit 25 total homers, 13 between the two of Doom and Hewitt. Brad Hand leads Four Corners with three homers while Garrett Stout has two and a total of 10 during the year. The two teams did not meet during the regular season. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be Friday through Sunday so if Four Corners wins tonight they will then have to win three games in three days this weekend to claim the Class B championship.
First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:30 in Brandon.
