Both South Dakota teams will have to fight all the way back to the championship on Sunday after losing opening round games as Harrisburg lost 6-0 to Lincoln and Yankton 4-1 to Fargo Post 400.
Harrisburg opened the tournament on Wednesday, but were one hit in the shutout loss as Rylan Boe was the only guy to get a hit, which he went 1-1 pinch hitting leading off the bottom of the sixth inning. With only two being hit by a pitch and no errors, only three would reach base for Harrisburg. Harrisburg also finished with four errors in the game leaving three unearned runs against Darren Safranski as he took the loss in three plus innings of work.
Yankton would close out the day against the host team, Fargo Post 400. Post 12 would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on Matthew Sheldon’s double just two batters into the inning. However, it was all the runs they would get in the game as Matthew Bryant would sprinkle six hits over six and 1/3 innings of work to get the win. Beck Ryken would be tagged with the loss on the mound giving up the four runs over six and 1/3 innings on eight hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
The other two final scores were Shakopee, Minnesota beating Elkhorn, Nebraska 6-1 and West Fargo, North Dakota beating Grand Rapids, Minnesota 4-0.
