The Central Plains Regional Tournament begins today in Fargo, North Dakota as two South Dakota teams, fight for a spot in Shelby, North Carolina at the American Legion World Series.
Harrisburg and Yankton opened the state tournament against each other last Tuesday afternoon and then found their way to meet in the championship, both earning a spot in the Central Plains Regional as there are only four states in Region 6 meeting in Fargo, which means each state gets two teams in the eight team tournament. Fargo Post 400, the host, is joined by West Fargo of North Dakota. Lincoln and Elkhorn are coming from Nebraska and Shakopee and Grand Rapids will be in from Minnesota. The format is the same as it is for the state tournament, a double elimination tournament playing one game per day with a possibility of playing two games on the championship day, Sunday.
Harrisburg, South Dakota’s state champion faces the Nebraska champion, Lincoln to open the tournament at 9:30 this morning. Yankton, the two seed in the state and the runner up, will meet the host team, Fargo at 7:00 tonight to round out the first day of games. The last time Harrisburg won the state championship was in 2023 and finished in third in Rapid City at the Central Plains Tournament.
