PHILIP, (KCCR) — An Eagle Butte man was shot and killed by law enforcement in Haakon County Tuesday night following a hostage situation. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the incident started on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation when Tribal Law Enforcement began a pursuit with a vehicle related to a weapons call near Green Grass in Dewey County.
The pursuit moved south into Haakon County when multiple agencies joined in. The driver, identified as 31 year-old Schace Looking Horse. After Looking Horse’s vehicle was disabled he managed to take a hostage at gunpoint and stole a vehicle.
The pursuit continued until that vehicle was disabled. Looking Horse was shot and killed after the vehicle stopped. The hostage was treated at the scene. Jackley says the investigation of the incident was long and complex with multiple law enforcement agencies helping….
Assisting in the pursuit were Cheyenne River Law Enforcement, Highway Patrol and Game, Fish and Parks, Sheriff’s Offices in Haakon, Jackson, Jones and Stanley Counties and Philip Police.
