The Sully Buttes football team got to experience their first football state championship since 1989 when they rolled past Faulkton Area 34-14 last November. Now, starting 2025, the focus is on this season and won’t be dwelling on the past.
The Chargers had reached the pinnacle of 9B in 2017 and 2018, but both teams they couldn’t raise the state championship trophy. The feeling kept alluding the Chargers until the 2024 season when the group was dominant in their playoff run with just one game closer than 20 points, the semifinal against Canistota winning 34-28. While a good size group returns from last year’s team, Tom Moore, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers, is not going to let last year’s title distract from the goal for this year. He says they won’t talk about it much at all even at the beginning of the season…
Moore says it’s also been a good summer to see progression before fall camp starts…
And Moore say while some of the experience has graduated, those returning and those stepping into those roles have worked hard over the summer…
The Sully Buttes season begins at home on Friday, August 22 when the Chargers host the Northwestern Wildcats at 7:00. Sully Buttes football is on Country 95.3 and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports.
