Post 8 senior legion’s season would come to an end with a 3-2 nine inning walk off loss to Yankton on Wednesday at the state tournament in Watertown going 0-2.
Unfortunately for Pierre, it was a story of extra inning and walk off losses for Pierre this year. So close so many times this year as the Eights lost four walk off games with a walk off or extra inning game while also losing another two games by one run.
Beck Ryken did it all for Yankton on Wednesday as he had a two RBI double in the first and got all but one out in the full nine innings on the mound and finished with the walk off single in the ninth. He allowed five hits over eight and two thirds innings allowing one earned run with four strike outs. Dawson Getz made it 2-1 in the top of the third and then Carter Schiefelbein hit into a double play but tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth and the score remained tied until the ninth when Ryken came up with the bases loaded and one out and hit a sharp ground ball through the left side of the infield getting past a diving Hudson Stoeser and out of the reach of Getz. JJ Bucholz went five innings on the mound giving up two runs on three hits with six walks and five strikeouts. Will Danburg threw for the second straight day and give up the final run on four hits and three walks over three and a third.
Pierre finishes the season at 18-16 advancing to its first state tournament since 2022 increasing their win total by eight games from last year while playing six less games. Brayden Houlette, Charlie Simpson, Dawson Getz, Grayson Hunsley, JJ Bucholz, Ridge Leimbach and Trevor Rounds end their Eights career.
