Tonight, in Pierre, the Oahe Zap and Spearfish Sasquatch will meet for game one of the best of five Independence League Championship Series, the first in Zap’s history.
Oahe stormed its way into making the championship series with a 16-8 second half record holding off Casper and Hastings down the stretch to play in the ILB championship for the first time in its three year history. Spearfish finished the season with the best record overall at 32-17. The two teams played 11 times this summer and the Sasquatch won eight of the 11 contests including five in a row in the early part of the season. However, Oahe did split the last two games in Spearfish winning the finale of the two game series 7-5. The Zap were led this season by Vince Polizzi who hit .340 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs in 30 games played. Ty Farwell had 35 runs driven while having 11 doubles and four home runs hitting .296. First pitch tonight and Wednesday are at 7:05 in Pierre. The series will transition to Spearfish Friday through Sunday for games three through five with games four and five being if necessary.
