Pierre Post 8 14U are coming back to Pierre with some state championship hardware after coming back in the semifinals and then withstanding a rain delay to win the 14U State Title in Aberdeen on Monday.
In a time constrained game to try and beat the impending weather on the day, Pierre and Watertown met in the semifinals with a two hour time limit, Pierre would beat Watertown 12-10 in four innings. However, Pierre had to force a massive comeback. Watertown scored eight runs in the top of the second and took a 10-3 lead. Pierre battled to score half of those runs back and trailed 10-7 after three and then added five runs in the bottom of the third to lead 12-10 and picked up a much needed zero in the top of the fourth to win the semifinal. Janzen Arrow led the way with three RBIs while Tripp Lindekugel, Kaden Goodlander and Tace Palecek each had an RBI. Lindekugel threw the final three innings of relief and did not allow an earned run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
In the championship game, Pierre faced Brandon Valley winning 9-4 to claim the title, but after Pierre scored five runs in the bottom of the third, they hit a rain delay. Brandon Valley answered with a three run fourth out of the rain delay to pull within one, but Brecken Fuhrman who threw all seven innings, withstood the rain delay and three run inning to not allow a single runner on base in the final three innings really shutting the door on Brandon Valley’s chances. Lindekugel had a game high three RBIs to lead Pierre while both Fuhrman and Goodlander had two runs driven in and Hayden Northrup and Jace Hand each driving in a run. Pierre had six of its 12 hits go for doubles.
Pierre finishes an outstanding season finishing 5-0 at the state tournament and going 33-4 overall bringing home a state championship.
