For the first time in Oahe Zap history, the team will play for the Independence League Championship after winning Saturday’s game 6-4. Oahe lost Sunday 8-6, but the spot was already clinched.
After winning Friday night in Fremont 12-11, Oahe had to win just one of the two games over the weekend to reach the championship series. The Zap held a 4-0 lead after five innings and win the Sodbusters made it 5-4 in the top of the seventh, Oahe had the insurance run they needed to finish out the win leaving the tying run at the plate in the ninth. Oahe finishes the second half of the season at 16-8 and are 26-24 to close the regular season in total. Oahe finishes with the best win percentage in the second half, even in front of the first half champs, Spearfish Sasquatch.
The championship series will start in Pierre on Tuesday and Wednesday this week with first pitch at 7:05 both days. The series will move to Spearfish on Friday through Sunday for games three through five in the best of five championship series. It’s the first championship series for the Zap in its three year history.
