The Pierre Post 8 13U would lose its only game in the championship on Sunday after walking off the semifinals earlier in the day as the Eights finish 4-1 in the tournament.
Pierre opened up the state tournament on Friday beating Renner 14-6 as Weston Terwilliger had an incredible five RBIs in the win as Colt Schilling and Luke Deal each had two RBIs. Connor Peschong and Schilling combined for the win on the mound.
On Saturday, Pierre beat Dakota Valley 6-4 and Watertown 6-1 to become the two seed in bracket play for Sunday. The Eights would get another two RBIs from Terwilliger while both Schilling and Deal each had an RBI. Jaylen Keyes and Deal combined to throw for the win. it was the same result Saturday evening as Terwilliger had another two RBIs with Schilling and Deal each having an RBI again. Bennett Heiss and Ben Martinec also had an RBI. Terwilliger would not allow an earned run in the complete game win on the mound.
Pierre faced Brandon Valley on Sunday in the semifinals and the game remained scoreless to the bottom of the sixth. Keyes would lay down on a bunt with runners on first and second and an error from the BV pitcher would allow Heiss to score the walk off run to win 1-0 and advance to the championship. Lucius McCullough, who had the only hit for Pierre, allowed just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts for the complete game shutout win. In the championship, Pierre would be shutout 7-0 against Harrisburg as Harrisburg scored two runs in the third and five in the fifth. Schilling, Deal, Peschong and Martinec each had a hit in the loss.
Pierre finishes the state tournament at 4-1 and finish the season at 33-5 overall.
