A total of six errors would be the eventual downfall of the first game for Pierre Post 8 on Wednesday night as Huron Post 7 would come back from a 5-0 deficit and beat the Eights 8-6 to take the first game of the best of three first round series.
Pierre opened up with a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Charlie Simpson, RBI fielder’s choice from Porter Hunsley and an RBI groundout by Grayson Hunsley. Porter Hunsley would score reaching on an error and scoring on a throwing error to make it 4-0 and an infield single by Sutton Sonnenschein made it 5-0 through four innings. Huron would get two runs back in the fifth, but the Eights added on another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-2 lead as Porter Hunsley grabbed his second RBI of the game. But the wheels fell off in the sixth. The Eights had three errors in the inning and six runs came into score with a back breaking three run double by Oakley Anderson to give Huron its first lead of the game. Pierre was retired in order in both the sixth and seventh innings as Brady Feenstra would pick up the complete game win to put Huron one game away from making the state tournament for the first time since 2014 when they host the state tournament. Will Danburg would be tagged with the loss in five and a third innings pitched.
Pierre will have to win two games today to earn a spot in the state tournament while Huron needs to win just once. Coverage of game two begins at 12:45 with first pitch at 1:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. If Pierre wins the game, the final game of the series will follow shortly after the conclusion of the first game of the day.
