Pierre Post 8 is at home for the playoffs for the first time since 2021 and are looking to return to the state tournament for the first time since 2022 when they host Huron Post 7 in a best-of-three-series beginning tonight.
The last time Post 8 was at home, the Eights swept Yankton to make the state tournament in Brandon. Pierre’s last trip to the state tournament was in 2022 when the Eights went on the road and beat Renner to make the state tournament in Rapid City. Now, this Eights team look to make the state tournament with only Grayson Hunsley being on the 2022 squad to last be at state. However, this Eights team has had its best season over the last three years finishing over .500 at 16-13 in games played and 11-10 in South Dakota games, but with forfeits at 20-13 and 15-10 in South Dakota. Pierre has been able to at least compete with, if not beat, the top teams in the state. Meanwhile, Huron has had one of its best years at 8-12 in South Dakota games and 13-22 overall. In fact, since the new format in 2020, this is Huron’s best season. They’re filled with plenty of seniors and super seniors and look to make a surprise run at the state tournament. River Iverson, head coach of Post 8 says Huron is a scrappy team…
Pitching is always an important piece of making the state tournament and Iverson says while it will depend on the situation on how long a guy can go, it’s all hands on deck…
Iverson says it’s exciting to be back at home for the playoffs…
Iverson says it’s key for the bats and the offense to be there over the series to advance to the state tournament.
Coverage tonight begins at 6:45 with first pitch at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
