After finishing the regular season at 7-7 and going 8-16-1 overall, Pierre Post 8 13/14s are playing its best baseball heading to Sioux Falls to compete at the state tournament this weekend.
Just like the 15/16 state tournament, there are no pools in the tournament and every team is guaranteed to play two games on Friday and all 12 teams will be in the championship bracket starting on Saturday. Seeds 6-11 will need to win two games on Saturday to make the semifinals on Sunday. Teams can play as many as six games to if they make the state championship.
Pierre will open the tournament at 2:30 on Friday facing Watertown before then coming back and playing at 7:30 against Spearfish. The Eights did not face either team during the regular season, but a couple of wins can set the Eights up nicely for a high seed on Saturday. Christian Sollars is the head coach of the 13/14 team and says this team has seen a lot of growth of the course of the summer…
Just like Elliot Leif, the head coach of the 15/16 team, Sollars likes the format of the new tournament…
Sollars says fundamentals will be key starting with pitching…
You can see the full tournament schedule and bracket below. Post 8 will have first pitch at 2:30 Friday. KCCR will continue its state tournament coverage with the 13U team on Thursday and 14U on Friday.
