The three days of playing against the best high school golfers in the country has come to a close at Pinehurst as the four Pierre Governor golfers finish in 29th as a team with a top 50 individual finish.
Sawyer Sonnenschein would finish tied for 48th at the end of the tournament going five over par on the third day and finishing at three over par for the tournament. Luke Olson would have the best third day for Pierre as he was three over par and finished 15 over par in the three days finishing at 141 cracking the top 150 moving up 19 spots on the final day. Olson also had an albatross on hole 17 shooting a two on a par five. He eagled hole 16 at Pinehurst No. 5 on Monday. Nick Bothun would shoot eight over par on day three totaling 17 over par for the tournament at 163rd place. Lincoln Houska would shoot nine over par finishing at 23 over par and staying inside the top 200 of the best golfers in the country. Rory Asselta of New Jersey would finish with the individual championship shooting three under par totaling 16 under par, holding off Jake Albert of Virginia by a stroke who was five under for the day and 15 under par for the tournament. Asselta will just be a sophomore this fall.
Pierre would fall four spots to close the tournament at 29th place at 58 over par for the tournament. They finished 18 shots back of placing top 20 for the tournament. Albert’s Virginia school would finish at 13 under par for the tournament winning the team National title by nine strokes over both Utah and North Carolina who tied for second.
