Van Asperen says the cost has gone up substantially since the last time he got quotes. Some of the crossings will incorporate upgraded associated sidewalk areas. The upgrades are a part of the R-C-P-and-E’s Fort Pierre to Rapid City track improvements. Mayor Gloria Hansen says the project is not a budgeted one but believes the city has cash on hand to cover the cost of the crossing replacements. The project is expected to begin in September.
