The Pierre Governor golf team would kick off its National High School Invitational Golf Tournament on Sunday and the Governors find themselves with strong results after the first day.
Sawyer Sonnenschein would have the best day of the four golfers as he inside the top 20 tying for 18th at two under par, 70 at Pinehurst No. 6. Sonnenschein had four birdies with only two bogeys as he is eight shots back of first, but only three shots back of third place nationally. Nick Bothun would finish at four over par, 76 staying inside the top 150 of 309 golfers. Bothun had three birdies in his first round. Lincoln Houska had two birdies finishing at seven over par, 79 and Luke Olson would be nine over par, 81 with a birdie. Jake Albert from Virgina is the clubhouse leader by three shots through day one at 10 under par, 62.
As a team, the Governors are tied for 25th at 18 over par, 306 as a team. They’re just six shots back of getting inside the top 20 as a team. The clubhouse leader as a team after the first day is a team from Virigina who has Albert on the squad at 13 under par, 275.
Day Two for the Governors begin early with Houska teeing off at 6:20 Central Time, Olson at 6:31, Bothun at 6:42 and Sonnenschein at 6:53. The GGID to follow along is HPEHIGHSCHOOLBOYS.
