Post 8 U13s and U14s had great success at the Mid-Summer Classic Baseball Tournament held in Sioux Falls, SD, this past weekend. With over 20 teams in each division from South Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa, both teams earned a shot at the Championship.
Over the entire weekend, the U14s scored 59 runs and only gave up 10. The U14s went 4-1 on the weekend falling to Brandon Valley in the Championship. The U14s are coached by Jim Iversen and will finish their season with two home games this week Wednesday and Thursday with the State Tournament the following weekend in Aberdeen, SD. The U14s are the defending State Champions and are hoping to build on their successful season record of 24-4.
The U13 Team won all 6 of their games this weekend and scored an impressive 79 runs and gave up 22. In the Championship game, the U13s, who trailed by as many as four, came back to defeat Sioux Falls Lumberjacks 11-9 to claim the title. The U13s are coached by Miles Doyle and Assistant Coach Bill Ellwanger. The team will finish the regular season in Mitchell on Wednesday followed by the State Tournament the following weekend in Brookings, SD. The U13s have had a great season and currently have a record of 25-4.
Across the State, the U15/16s had a competitive weekend in Rapid City, SD, facing off against strong regional opponents. The Team came up short in matchups against Rapid City Post 22 Bullets and the Post 22 Cadets, but bounced back with solid wins over Gillette Prep Renegades and Cheyenne Post 6 Prep. Coach Elliot Leif said “It was a great opportunity for the players to gain experience and develop as a team” going into the State Tournament to be held in Yankton, SD. The 15/16s will finish the regular season in Rapid City, SD on Saturday.
The U13/14 Team played at home and swept Stanley County Post 20 on Sunday. Coach Christian Sollars and team will finish the season at the State Tournament to be held in Sioux Falls, SD.
