PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota State University Extension is offering free, livestock water testing services for producers across the state. Cow/Calf Field Specialist Robin Salverson says much of South Dakota has gotten good precipitation, but that doesn’t mean water sources like sloughs and dugouts are safe for watering livestock…
Salverson says water clarity can be a misnomer for cleanliness…
The free testing offered by county Extension Offices or Regional Centers uses an electro-conductivity meter to measure salts in the water…
A good indicator of quality water is the appearance of wild animals near the source such as deer, and antelope, which come to drink the water. After test results are reviewed, depending on results, additional testing may be recommended.
