Pierre Post 8 would start it’s last two weeks of the season sweeping Rapid City Post 320 on Tuesday at home winning game one 9-6 and taking game two 9-4.
In game one, Post 8 fell behind early thanks to a somewhat shaky start by J.J. Bucholz, but it would not limit the Eights for too long. Post 8 would quickly tie the game at 1-1 thanks to an RBI from Grayson Hunsley in the second. From there, both teams would trade runs for the remainder of the game. This would include both Carter Schiefelbein and Sutton Sonnenschein each having two hit performances and a combined three RBIs but Post 320 would hang around leading 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth. Post 8 would finally open up a gap that Post 320 could not overcome with a five run frame to put them out in front permanently and hold on for the 9-6 win.
In game two, Rapid City Post 320 jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against Will Danburg. A three run bottom of the first, followed by two runs in the third put Post 8 ahead by a 5-1 margin. However, Post 320 would make a hard charge to bring it to a one run game going into the sixth. Post 8 would once again take charge and dominate with four runs in the bottom frame. Post 8 would go on top 9-4 and seal their second win over Post 320 at home. Schiefelbein and Dawson Getz would lead the Post 8 bats with four hits and four RBIs combined for the contest.
Post 8 moves to 17-10 and 13-8 in South Dakota games and now looks ahead to their next doubleheader on Friday against Watertown. Jon Winkler will be on the call and you can catch coverage on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports starting at 10:45 AM and first pitch at 11:00.
