The High School State Rodeo Finals would finish up this past weekend in Fort Pierre and a couple of local athletes would win state championships over the weekend.
Makenzee Wheelhouse would win the goat tying state championship scoring 86 points, beating out second by seven points. Ryen Sheppick would win the reined cow horse state title with a 90 overall, beating out second place by 13.5 points. Sheppick also tied for first in the girls cutting, seventh in barrel racing and ninth in pole bending. Wheelhouse was also third in breakaway roping. Other top ten finishes for Pierre was Gabriyelle Irving placing fourth in barrel racing and Walker West finishing just outside of the top ten at 11th place in the boy’s cutting division. Lucas Yellow Hawk of Blunt would get fourth place in the bareback riding scoring 63 points, just 3.5 back of second place. Talon Ping of Highmore would get two fifth place finishes in both bareback riding and bull riding
