Harrisburg would sweep Post 8 in a doubleheader on Sunday winning game one 13-3 and then walking off the Eights in game two 9-8.
In game one, Harrisburg led off the first with an Eli Kokenge home run as Post 45 had four in the game. Tate Munce had two RBIs to lead 3-0 after the first. Bryson Esser had a two RBI double in the second as as Harrisburg led 7-0 after two innings. Sutton Sonnenschein and Dawson Getz had RBIs in the third for the Eights to pull within 7-2, but in the bottom of the third, Kokenge, Noah Boschee and Esser hit three home runs in a row on three pitches and Post 45 grabbed a 13-2 lead and held on for the five inning win. Will Danburg was tagged for the loss giving up six earned runs while Hudson Stoeser gave up six earned runs as well. Bridger Babcock had a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth.
In game two, Pierre once again found themselves down in a hole, trailing 4-0 after the first inning. Though, the Eights fought their way back as Charlie Simpson led off the second with a solo homer. Porter Hunsley had an RBI and Sonnenschein would have a two RBI single to tie the game at four. But it would be defensive miscues in the third as the Eights had three errors to allow three runs to score and Harrisburg was right back up 7-4. Trevor Rounds had a bases loaded RBI walk in the sixth to pull the Eights within one at 7-6 and after Harrisburg made it 8-6, Sonnenschein again had a key hit driving in two runs to tie the game with two outs in the top of the seventh. In the end, though, Ethan Beek had the walk off RBI single in the seventh as Pierre drops another heartbreaker this summer.
Pierre is now 8-9 on the season and are scheduled to host Box Elder in a doubleheader Friday. Post 8 coverage all season is on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
