The Pierre Governor Track and Field team had plenty of success during the 2025 season with multiple school records broken, but still are a team with plenty returning for next year.
Josh Schluesner, the head coach of the Pierre Governor Boys Track and Field team would say a lot during the season, we’re bringing Pierre Governor Track and Field back. They’re back, and here to stay. Of those competing at the state meet for the boys side, only seven will graduate. While those seven will be hard to lose from graduation, the guys returning will become better as the next couple years continue. Looking back to the state meet, Coach Slice says they had high expectations…
That 4×400 team consisted of sophomores Carter Schiefelbein, George Rapp and Hekmat Ghaznavi along with senior Carson Stoeser. Coach Slice says not a lot of people saw this coming from the boys side…
Schluesner says the kids really stepped up…
While falling just short of making the podium for the boys team, Schluesner equates it to the football team coming up just short in the state championship and it can lead to the hunger and drive to really excel for the boys and using it as a positive moving forward. He says it’s going to be a good thing…
Both Misty Larson, head coach of the Pierre girls, and Schluesner are excited for the 2026 season.
