
PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre woman has been named to the second highest position within the Department of Education. The Department Tuesday announced the appointment of Laura Scheibe as the agency’s Deputy Secretary. Scheibe has over a decade of experience within the state Education Department serving as Director of College, Career and Student Success along with work on student wellness and support, G-E-D program and South Dakota’s Jobs for America’s Graduates or JAG program. Education Secretary Joel Graves says Scheibe has proven herself to be dedicated to excellence in education through her leadership in initiatives like JAG-South Dakota, C-T-E and dual credit programs. Scheibe says she is honored to have the trust of Graves’ and the entire Department of Education staff and looks forward to serving all South Dakota learners. Scheibe has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska and a graduate certificate from U-S-D. Scheibe also previously served as a Foreign Service Officer with the the U-S State Department overseas and in Washington, D.C.
