Post 8 would split a doubleheader on the road Friday in Dickinson playing just two games instead of an originally scheduled tournament for the weekend. Pierre won game 1-0 before being walked off in game two 6-5.
In game one it became apparent quickly that a pitcher’s duel was shaping up between Will Danburg and Kyler Kudrna. The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 all the way until the sixth when Post 8 would finally get an opportunity to strike. Kudrna would walk Grayson Hunsley and then deliver a couple of wild pitches to place him third. It was then Sutton Sonnenschein would deliver a game-changing RBI Single to score Hunsley and give Pierre a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. From there, Dickinson was unable to get any leverage on Danburg who ended his day with a three hit complete game shutout.
Game two was a game from a different dimension as Dickinson flew out of the starting gate with three Runs in the bottom of the first against Pierre pitcher Porter Hunsley. Pierre would find themselves down by a significant margin for the first time in the past few doubleheaders, but did not give into the pressure. Dickinson chose to use several pitchers out of their bullpen for this game and in the fourth, it would get exploited by Pierre for two runs courtesy of a wild pitch by the Roughriders and a key RBI double from Sonnenschein to alter the course of the game. Dickinson did not take long to respond with a run in the fifth, but Pierre would not only match but surpass it by using Dickinson’s pitching troubles to their advantage. Pierre would take its first lead of the game with three runs capped off by a Carter Scheifelbein RBI single. Dickinson tied the game in the bottom of thefifth to bring the score to 5-5. After two scoreless innings by each club the game would head to extra innings where Pierre would miss out on a chance to put the game away with bases loaded and one out. From there, the Roughriders would not miss their chance by getting a walk off RBI Single to win the game 6-5.
Pierre now moves to 7-6 on the season finishing the two days at 3-1 and have won seven of the last ten games. Pierre is scheduled to be home against Sturgis on Tuesday, the first home game since the opening doubleheader on May 29.
