Pierre Post 8 senior legion will be on the road over the next two days as the Eights will travel to Spearfish this afternoon before playing a doubleheader in Dickinson on Friday.
Originally the game was scheduled to play on Wednesday in Spearfish, but was moved to Thursday to allow members of Post 8 to attend the funeral of their friend and teammate in other sports, Aiden Van Balen. Spearfish was gracious to move the games a day later as they have just played its first South Dakota games on Tuesday against both Sioux Falls East and West playing somewhat of a quad with Sturgis. Spearfish beat Sioux Falls West but were shutout by Sioux Falls East on Tuesday as they’re now 4-3 on the season. Spearfish went 8-12 in the spring season getting swept by Jefferson in the 4-13 matchup in playoffs.
Pierre is coming into the week at 4-5 going 3-2 last weekend at the Veterans Classic. The Eights are 1-4 in South Dakota games with the eight inning win over Post 320 on Sunday not counting because it was not originally scheduled. The Eights will look for a doubleheader sweep of Spearfish and get to 3-4 in South Dakota games before playing Dickinson on Friday which has gone from being a tournament to two days of triangulars to now being just a doubleheader on Friday with the Roughriders.
Coverage this evening begins at 3:45 Central Time with first pitch at 4:00. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call.
